About Carlee

I have been involved in music since a very young age. My first memories included listing to Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, Anita O’Day, Aretha Franklin, Marva Whitney, and Bonnie Raitt amongst many others. I’ve always been drawn to Jazz, but R&B moves my soul.

My father has a twelve-piece band that has been a part of my life for over twenty years. I’ve always loved every opportunity to work with my father and his band, ”CARL SMITH AND THE NATURAL GAS CO.”

In 1980 I sang vocals on BURNIN by CARL SMITH AND THE NATURAL GAS CO, produced by Match Box Records. I remember going into the studio and learning to work through the process, I remember my vocal ability improved because I had the first opportunity to finally hear myself sing. I walked on a cloud for six months.

I remember my first live concert after recording that album with my dad, the energy and excitement from the crowd filled my senses and nearly overwhelmed me. As the concert went on I remember the intense feeling of a cycle being completed; my giving to the crowd and them giving back. It is an experience I have never forgotten and dream of creating at every event.

I’ve always known that music is where my passion and dreams come alive. It’s where I can write about my feelings in ways that touch the heart and soul. These days I’m working with a songwriter, JENNIFER ELAND who has inspired my singing and infused my music with more passion and power, and I love it. I’ve also had the privilege of working with NORMAN SYLVESTER this last year, who has helped me learn how to be comfortable with myself and my music in a way that is unlimiting.
